GOLDEN BELL WINNERS & NOMINEES
The votes are in, and the following staff members have been chosen as Golden Bell Recipients. They demonstrate outstanding dedication and have had a positive impact on our students and school. This honor is especially meaningful because they have been chosen by their peers for their work this year. Please join me in recognizing the following 2021-2022 Golden Bell Winners and Nominees:
Golden Bell Classified Employee – Roberto Garcia Guzman
Roberto is always willing to jump in and help in any way he can! He has spent hundreds of hours training, testing, and practicing to be our newest bus driver. Roberto can always be counted on to brighten the day with a friendly smile and he helps keep our campuses beautiful and running smoothly.
Golden Bell Certificated Employee – Mary Lynn (ML) Bryan
ML adds pizzazz to our school with her fun spirit and dedication to building respectful and trusting relationships between staff, students, and parents. She has been instrumental in helping us build our school wide Agreement system. ML can always be counted on to bring the fun and music to any event!
Nominee for Classified Employee of the year – Joy Von Thaer and Charlie Lopez-Alvarado
Joy leads the way everyday by welcoming and supporting our kindergartens. One of my favorite things about visiting the Stinson Campus is the sound of Joy’s laughter. If you need her, you can always find Joy wherever the kids are – she loves them as much as they love her!
Charlie is always willing to lend a helping hand. He provides daily, extra support with Spanish translation and family outreach which is greatly appreciated. Charlie is an invaluable asset for our school. He has built trusting and lasting relationships with both staff and students and his good humor is appreciated by all!
Nominee for Board Member of the year – Nate Siedman
You can see Nate in action at every board meeting as our dedicated board president. What you may not know about Nate is that he is an amazing Track and Field Coach! I just learned that Nate’s mom originally introduced track and field to BSUSD. Nate is passionate about helping us to build a robust track and field team with Coach Kelly.
Thank you all for your deep commitment and all you do for our kids!
CAASPP TESTING IS BACK FOR THE MONTH OF MAY, GRADES 3-8
It is the time of year for May flowers and the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. The full battery of CAASPP tests are back this year and will provide a snapshot of how our school is doing compared to state standards. Third through eighth grade students will be taking practice tests the first two weeks of May. Students will then complete the English Language Arts (ELA) and the Math Summative Assessment and the ELA and the MathPerformance Assessments.
You can help by making sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are interested in sending in a healthy snack for your child’s class on a testing day. Special treats are always appreciated by the students!
If you would like to opt your child out of testing, please send me or the office a note (before testing begins) requesting that your child be excused from state testing this year. You can get more information about CAASPP testing by going to CAASPP.org.
BUS SAFETY ON THE ROAD AND AT SCHOOL ~ HELP KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE
Our wonderful bus drivers and several parents have reported some very unsafe driving around our buses. Our drivers take great care to keep our kids safe both inside the bus and as they are loading and unloading. Please drive cautiously around our buses and remember that cars must not pass the bus if the red lights are flashing! Red lights mean that students are getting on and off the bus and could be crossing the street.
Please stay out of the bus zone in front of the school. I have seen many parents walking their students through the bus zone. This is dangerous because the buses cannot always see little ones on the road in front or behind them. Parents, please model safe walking at all times by staying on the brick walkway and always using the crosswalk when picking up or dropping off your students to school. The kids are always watching and learning from us. Thank you for keeping us all safe!
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK MAY 2ND-6TH ~ SPREAD THE LOVE!
Please join me in recognizing our amazing staff and all they do for our kids. Our staff is the most dedicated, hardworking and caring I have had the pleasure of working with. Our fabulous room parents are organizing some special treats for teachers to enjoy and to help them relax during this special week. Big news ~ our School Site Council, the Bolinas-Stinson Beach Foundation and Smileys are planning an extra special lunch for our staff on Cinco de Mayo! Thank you for taking the time to appreciate all the wonderful things our staff does for the school and our kids. Please reach out to your room parent if you would like to participate and join in the fun!
