Dear Bolinas Stinson School Families,
VALENTINE’S WEEK FULL TO THE BRIM WITH ACTIVITIES!
What a sweet week it has been with our students doing so many worthwhile activities! Our 5th & 6th graders spent time volunteering to help fill backpacks for others in need, our 7th & 8th graders hiked the Steep Ravine Trail, 2nd & 3rd graders read and wrote poetry, 2nd - 4th grade had an amazing field trip to Bear Valley and our PreK - 1st graders shared kind words with each other during their Valentine's celebrations. We also had a wonderful assembly on Monday where our second grade students shared their heartfelt poetry, fifth and sixth graders shared their experience volunteering, and our fourth graders had a great time teaching everyone the Virginia Reel, so much fun!
WELCOME OLIVER WHITCROFT ~ OUR NEW STEAM ENHANCED WOODSHOP SPECIALIST
I am excited to welcome Oliver Whitcroft as our new Steam-Enhanced Woodshop Specialist. Oliver brings a wealth of knowledge about woodworking as well as a strong background in working with Elementary, Middle, and High School students. Oliver is also a practicing artist and is eager to explore the connection between creating unique pieces of art with wood, science, technology, and math as he works with our students to bring their creative expression to life.
Oliver is a Bolinas raised artist, teacher and musician. He is a graduate of the Bolinas School and son of longtime Woodshop teacher Ron Brown. He has spent time studying in Santa Cruz, working with youth for the better part of the last decade, and has been known to show up and add to the eclectic creative shenanigans of the Bolinas Summer Camp. His teaching style leans towards helping keep the creative juices flowing without fear of failure. Often, he tries to maintain a playful sense of experimentation and confidence in one's unique abilities as an artist. We are so excited to welcome him to the BSUSD Team!
LAST YOGA SESSION WITH MOLLY MAGUIRE ~ OUR WONDERFUL YOGA INSTRUCTOR
This Friday, February 18, 2022, at 2:45 PM we will be honoring Molly on her last day of yoga with our students. Students and staff will gather on the field to participate in a school-wide yoga routine that Molly has taught to all our classes. All parents are invited to attend as well, but need to remain masked while on campus to comply with the latest health and safety guidance. All visitors, please sign in at the office.
Students will present Molly with cards and flowers to thank her for her wonderful work. Molly has made a tremendous difference at our school by providing much needed calming and centering yoga activities for our students during these stressful times. Molly began teaching yoga at BSUSD to help our students cope with the many stressors around distance learning and changing COVID restrictions. She provided a safe space for our students to learn different yoga techniques and poses that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Molly will continue to provide yoga to our students as part of our amazing after school programming. Please reach out to Janis Yerington for more information.
