District Learning Network
The learning network is an organized system for storing and exchanging
information.
The heart of the network is a Server, named bsusd.
bsusd
o When you visit the bolinas-stinson.org
web site, the pages you are seeing are being transmitted from the bsusd
server in the tech lab.
o When you login to use a computer anywhere on campus, the bsusd server
checks your password then provides you with access to your own private
set of files and folders.
bsusd/Users
o Everyone's files and folders are stored in the bsusd server on a volume
called Users.
o Look on the desktop (Macs) or inside My Computer (PCs) now and you will
see the Users volume.
bsusd/Users/"Home Folder"
- Open up Users and you will see many folders inside.
Within Users, each user has a corresponding folder
that is named after their username (e.g. kevinp).
This folder is called your home folder. On PCs, this
is also known as your H drive inside of "My Computer."
- Inside your home folder, you will find the following
sub-folders:
- Desktop – if you save a file to the desktop
of a Mac or PC, it ends up in here. If you log on to another computer,
these files will show up on the desktop of the new computer as well.that
you needn't ever bother with.
- Documents – you should save most of your
documents in here, such as homework assignments. You can create
additional sub-folders in here using the File menu on either Mac
or PC (File > New > Folder).
- Library – settings are stored in here.
DO NOT SAVE FILES IN HERE.
- Movies – you can store small movie clips
in here, but this is not a good place to store iMovies, which can
get very large.
- Music –store music in here.
- Pictures – store photos, drawings and other
pictures in here.
- Public – put things in here that you want
other users to be able to see.
- Drop Box – your Drop Box works like
a locked mailbox, which only you can open. Everyone can drag
and drop files into everyone else's Drop Box, but can't look
inside. Only you can look inside your own Drop Box to find out
what others may have delivered to you.
- Sites – this folder is where you may keep
a website.
