"Blood-red moon" Assignment:
- Open Microsoft Word. Put your name and today's date in the header section
of the page.
- Type up the page as shown on the "Blood-red moon" handout,
except for the moon picture and its caption (see step
5).
- Save the assignment to your Documents folder as "Blood-red
moon."
- Click on the first line of text and go to Insert > Text
Box.
- Click here, then drag the picture of the moon into the text box in your Word document.
- Type the caption shown on the handout beneath the picture of the
moon.

Basic Writing Assignment:
- Open Microsoft Word. A new, blank document will appear.
- Double-click
in the header at the top of the page.
- Hit the tab key twice (right-align) and type your
name. Hit return.
- Hit the tab key twice (right-align) and type today's date
or the date you wrote your paper. Hit return.
- Hit the tab key once (center align)
and type a title. Make one up if necessary. Hit
return.
- Double-click in the body of the page and type your document.
- Save the document (Command + S or File > Save).
- Enter a decriptive name in the Save As: box .
You can use the title from step 2c.
- Make sure your Documents folder is selected.
- Click the Save button.
- Select your document and make it double-spaced.
- Command + A or Edit > Select All.
- Command + 2 for double-spacing.
- Save the document (Command + S or File > Save).
Optional Steps:
- If asked, select the text in the box below and copy it (Command
+ C or Edit
> Copy).
This writing assignment demonstrates my
computer skills. I know how to log
on to the computer, open up a word-processing
program and create a document with
my name, date and a title in the
header. I am learning how to type
with the correct fingers on the keyboard.
I know how to save the documents

- Double-click in the footer at the bottom of the
page.
- Paste the text you copied in step 5 into the footer with Command
+ A or Edit > Paste.
- Save the document (Command + S or File > Save).
- Print your document to the lab-laser printer (Command
+ P or File >Print).
