Seventh & Eighth Grades
Language Arts and History
A Student:
- is at or above grade level in reading and writing skills
- gets all work in on time - even when absent
- participates in class discussions on a consistent basis
- focuses more on quality than quantity
- can work independently
- sees teacher for help or to talk about a book or writing
- is interested and motivated
- takes academic risks - makes inferences and supports them with
specific examples (from text when appropriate)
- incorporates teacher feedback into assignments
- spells “no excuse” words correctly
- is able to produce adequate on demand writing
- participates in activities outside the class that involve
cultural, artistic and literary activities: poetry readings, story
telling drama, etc.
- every assignment - both homework and in class assignments are
carefully completed and reflect student engagement
- asks questions
- always willing to work hard even on frustrating assignments
- appropriate behavior in class and on field trips
B Student:
- is at or above grade level in reading and writing skills
- gets all work in on time - even when absent
- participates in class discussions on a consistent basis
- focuses more on quality than quantity
- sees teacher for help or to talk about a book or writing
- is motivated
- makes inferences and supports them with specific examples (from
text when appropriate)
- incorporates teacher feedback into assignments
- spells “no excuse” words correctly
- is willing to to try frustrating assignments - i.e. on demand
writing
- every assignment - both homework and in class assignments are
carefully completed and usually reflect engagement
- asks questions
- appropriate behavior in class and on field trips
C Student:
- is at grade level in reading and writing skills
- gets work in on time
- participates in class discussions at times need to be
encouraged
- sees teacher for help
- makes, or attempts to make supported inferences
- incorporates teacher feedback into assignments
- usually spells “no excuse” words correctly
- is willing to try frustrating assignments - i.e. on demand
writing
- every assignment - both homework and in class assignments are
complete and reflect grade level achievement
- asks questions
- appropriate behavior in class and on field trips
D Student:
- completes most assignments but is inconsistent - assignments do
not always reflect grade level skills or acquisition of
skills
- does not get all work in on time - but tries to make up
- needs to be encouraged to participate in class discussions
- needs to be redirected in class
- makes minimum effort
- does not voluntarily seek help from teacher
F Student
- is not passing at this time
Note: Two D’s in Language Arts in
a year may be cause for considering retention or summer school
Note: Five tardies will lower your
by a grade point - for example if you were getting a B you would get a
B- on your
report card.
