TUESDAY: 


 The Peloponnesian War re-enactment at Albie’s house           

 in Stinson Beach.  Towel and swim suit or change of

 clothing.  Sack lunch. 


WEDNESDAY:


 Beach Day is at Shell Beach in Inverness for K-6. 

 Sack lunch, swim suit, towel, shoes for the hike to the 

 beach.K-8 dismissal is at 2:00 today.


THURSDAY:


 Graduation and promotion at 11:00.  Dismissal at 12:00. lace it with your own.

SPELLING: no spelling this week.  PB will give you your spelling test grades to average. 


READING LOG: this is your last week to make entries and turn in your log.  


HISTORY: read Chapters 29 and 30 including vocabulary and corresponding workbook assignments.  You must go until your have completed the chapter on Alexander the Great.

FIELD TRIP:  permission forms for Tuesday’s Peloponnesian War field trip to Stinson Beach must be returned no later than Monday, June 9th.


SCRAPBOOK: you may work on this whenever you have spare time.

LITERATURE: if you haven’t written your dialogue, you are behind schedule. Refer to handout on how to make a costume for the gods and goddesses presentation.  Design your costume.  Draw a diagram.  Color it.  


SPELLING:  Lesson #30, all levels.  Prefix astro; root bibl; suffixes -er, -ist.  Refer to your notes from the easel board on this week’s special science vocabulary. 

Remember to learn to spell Peloponnesian War.  There will be a spelling test on Friday before Music.

 

READING LOG: 3 entries this week for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Log is due Friday.


MATH:  5th graders have 3 fraction handouts this week for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Due on Friday.


HISTORY: Chapter 28, Fighting the Persian Wars beginning on page 271 of the text and ending on page 277.  Add the vocabulary from this chapter to your list in your binder.  Then do pages 181 to 187 in your workbook.  Remember to also learn what the Peloponnesian War was all about.  Refer to your easel board notes.

SPELLING:  Lesson #29, all levels.  Prefix hypo; root neur; suffixes -er, -est.  Refer to your notes from the easel board on the positive, comparative,superlative stages of an adjective.  There will be a spelling test on Friday before Music.


ENGLISH: Letter of Reflection for 5th graders only on Wednesday with PB.

 

READING LOG: continue reading in your SSR book. No reading log entries this week. 


MATH:  5th graders define these math vocabulary words in your journal: numerator, deonominator, improper fraction, mixed number,  denominator, lowest terms/simplest form, factor, multiple, equivalent fractions.  Include examples. 


HISTORY: Chapter 27, Life in Two City-States: Athens and Sparta beginning on page 259 of the text and ending on page 269.  Add the vocabulary from this chapter to your list in your binder.  Then do pages 175  to 180 in your workbook.  


SCIENCE: solution, solute, and solvents for Friday’s lab.

SPELLING:  Lesson #28, all levels.  Prefix sub; numerical prefixes giga and nano; root dem; suffix ess.


GRAMMAR: subject and object; transitive and intransitive verbs; lie and lay.


READING LOG: continue reading in your SSR book. No reading log entries this week. Turn in your reading log for evaluation by PB.


MATH:  5th graders have fraction homework Monday through Thursday. 

       

HISTORY: Chapter 26, The Rise of Democracy beginning on page 253 of the text and ending on page 257.  Add the vocabulary from this chapter to your list in your binder.  Then do pages 171 to 174 in your workbook.  


SCIENCE: read Solutions Up Close beginning on page 16 in the text and ending on page 19.  In your science notebook, write each of the words in boldface type on every other line leaving room for a definition.  We will do another experiment on Wednesday afternoon during science lab.

the two-week STAR Testing window.  Research on Greek gods and goddesses is ongoing and independent work.  Bring your research to class.  Consult with your classmates. 


READING LOG: do 3 entries only beginning Tuesday evening.  Follow the guideline below.


 Each log entry must be a personal response.  Include the book’stitle and the pages read, i.e., pages 210 - 220.  First write down what happens in the book in the part you have read.  Then write your response to what happened.  When you respond, write what you think, or how that part made you feel.  You may choose to connect what happens in the book to something in your life or some other book  you have read.  Support by telling why you either think or feel the way you do.  DEVELOP your idea. 


MATH:  5th graders circle portfolios are due ASAP.  Do it for homework if you haven’t finished by the end of the day on Monday.

LITERATURE:  next TRI rotation starts Tuesday.

LITERATURE:  follow the instructions in the poetry handout.  Write a haiku and a cinquain.  These poems are due Friday. 


READING LOG: If you have turned in your reading log, I will return it to you on Tuesday.  If you have not done the following, please do so: 

 

 Tape the rubric into the front of your reading log.  Keep track of the dates and the number of pages that you read. ENGLISH: Spelling Lesson #21 all levels; test on Friday.

All groups will learn this week’s prefix (post), root (sci), and suffix (ed). Refer to the handout and

highlight this weeks affixes and root. The spelling test will be like last week’s.

Color groups must learn that post is a prefix, sci is a root, and ed is a suffix.

PB’s group must also learn the meaning of post, sci, and ed.

Advanced group must learn how to break a word apart into its prefix, root, and suffix in order to

determine what the word means.

Complete the handout on Synonyms, both sides,

in class on Tuesday. Finish for HOMEWORK.

PARTS OF SPEECH: verbs - in class do SkillsBook Verbs 1 on pages 135 and 136. For HOMEWORK Monday, do Verbs 2 on pages 137 and 138. We will go over this in class on Tuesday. Bring your SKillsBook to class.

HISTORY: in class go over last week’s workbook assignment.


SCIENCE: first go over geology time scale in the cartoon handout in class. Next, create a “geological time scale” based on your life. This won’t begin until Tuesday afternoon’s science class.

READING: minimum of 30 minutes each day. Write in your reading log each day. Follow the directions in the

handout that you taped into your reading log. If you don’t know what to do, write a summary.


PERSUASIVE WRITING: in class analyze persuasive essays on the overhead. Review the required elements of persuasive writing. Using anecdotes and quoting experts to persuade. Select a topic. Write a persuasive essay.
