Please see page 1 of the handout to get started. We are not going to follow page 2 of the instructions handout. Instead, we are going to add pictures for each month as suggested by the class.
I. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
In order to add pictures for each month, you must insert a blank row and the days of the week at the top of each month. Some months overlap in the middle of a week, in which case you will have to duplicate the overlapping week to show up on both months' calendar pages.
II. STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
A. Insert a blank row for the January picture.
- Select Row 1 (or any other row beneath where you want to insert the blank row).
- Go to Insert > Rows
- With Row 1 selected, go to Edit > Clear > Formats to make it blank.
- Resize the row height as big as it will go (409). You may have to adjust the page zoom to 100% to do so.
- You may have to drag up the blue line in Page Break Preview to include the picture row.
- Select the 7 cells in your new, blank row and click the Merge and Center button
on the Formatting Toolbar. This gives you a big cell in which to paste your picture at the end of these instructions.
B. Repeat a week (at the end/beginning of a month):
- Select the 2 rows of the week below the week to repeat.
- Copy (cmd+C)
- Go to Insert > Copied Cells
- Drag the page break in Page Break Preview to appear in the correct place.
C. Put a picture row and weeks row at the top of each month.
- Select Rows 1 and 2 (or any other picture & weekday rows).
- Copy (cmd+C)
- Select the next date week at the top of the month where the picture & weekdays are needed.
- Go to Insert > Copied Cells
- Repeat steps 2-4: You still have a blank row and a weekday row selected, so copy it again, repeating steps 2-4 until there is a blank picture row, followed by a weekday row, at the top of each month.
- After all the picture+weekday rows are inserted, drag the page breaks in Page Break Preview to appear above and below each picture row/page.
D. Insert pictures on the blank/picture rows above each month. The pictures can follow a theme (e.g. animals), or be based on special days/holidays in each month (e.g. pumpkins for October, turkey for November, etc.).
- Find the picture in Safari and save it (see here for instructions).
- Go back to Excel and click in the cell where you want the picture.
- Go to Insert > Picture > From File... and locate the picture you saved in Step 1.
E. When you are finished, turn in your assignment by saving it as a PDF instead of printing it on trees :-).
- Go to File > Print...
- Click the PDF button in the lower right and select Save as PDF... (see below).

- After selecting Save as PDF, navigate to your home folder and select Public so I can easily collect your assignment off the server without killing any trees!
