The short name you use to login at BSUSD should already be entered under User Name. The password is the same one you use to login to BSUSD computers.

You can now start using Mail.

If you selected IMAP in Step 1, repeat the above steps on each computer you use to check you email, and/or use WebMail.

General Settings for All Email Programs

Account Type: POP or IMAP (See below for when to use IMAP)
Incoming Mail Server (POP or IMAP): bolinas-stinson.org
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): bolinas-stinson.org (port 587, use authentication)
Email Address: username@bolinas-stinson.org (e.g. kevinp@bolinas-stinson.org)
Username for Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server: the short name that you use to login at BSUSD (e.g. kevinp)
Password for Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server:
the password you use to login at BSUSD

Note that port 25 is also accepted by BSUSD's outgoing mail server, but may be blocked by your ISP.

When to Use IMAP

Use IMAP only if:

  1. You use both WebMail and a dedicated mail program (e.g. MS Outlook, OS X Mail, etc.)
      OR
  2. You check email from a computer that does not login to the BSUSD network (e.g. a home computer) in addition to one or more that does.

IMAP allows you to store email in a central location so that it can be shared among multiple computers. If you are still unsure whether or not to use it, ask Kevin.
